Bubble POPPED!: Wackness of the Week
I’m sorry to do it! But it must be done.
Despite what 106 & PArk may be telling you, the wackness of the week has to go to:
B-Hamp: Ricky Bobby
Now! This by no means is an attack on southern dance. I grew up in North Carolina.. and despite being born in Jersey, I consider myself a southern. I have a guilty pleasure of listening to Soulja Boy and engaging in dances that I may think are dumb, but are none-the-less hella fun in the club and social gatherings… Now… with that said… I have a huge issue with this Ricky Bobby dance. Not only is it too simplistic, I don’t see what’s the big fuss about it! I won’t be caught dead doing this dance in a club! Any club! From Brooklyn to Atlanta! If you like this dance- please, tell me why. I find this whole dance-craze a gimmick.
I can understand the critique that it’s all part of the comical side of hip hop; Yes, hip hop was also founded on characteristic artists such as Slick Rick, Biz Markie, Busta Rhymes, and Redman- they all have comical stances about them… but this is not related to that! I don’t have a problem with the fact that there are dance songs out there- but it’s to the point when ANY and EVERYBODY can make up a dance, put a beat behind it, make a youtube, and see fame within the next few months. And why is this? Because A&Rs are no longer doing their jobs. Instead of looking for new talent, they’re searching for what is “Already out there” what is “Already popular in the streets.” There’s no creativity coming out of these new dance songs! I say to leave this schtick to Soulja Boy and tell the rest of them to SIT THE HELL DOWN! IM NOT POSING FOR NO DAMN FRAME IF RICKY BOBBY IS THE CAUSE!!! This dance lacks a substance of being at least challenging so that I feel like I’ve accomplished something while doing it. And it lacks lyrical content. This song WACK! AND gets a BIG, BIG NO-NO!
