LIKE this song….

HOW ABOUT YOU?

More than likely, it’s mostly due to my taste in artists, but these past few albums I’ve reviewed have all contributed to hip hop what is lacking on the radio, television, and media revenues throughout the U.S.  Fabolous’ new album “Loso’s Way” is more than drugs and glory.. it’s love lost, love forgotten, money, cars, clothes, the past, the future, the club, the bedroom, the block corner AND the corner of your room when you just wanna be left alone!  So far, I’d have to claim it my favorite Rap album of 2009 – (given that Nas and Damien Marley has yet to drop:)  Like any album, I have my favorites and my not-so-favorites, but honestly, by the last track I had to re-name my favorite ones because I liked them all so much.  Pop the bubble for the full review>>>

To begin, the intro is artistically driven.  Beginning with a strong theme of paparazzi and news reporters… the entire album makes sense with one question: “What do you have to say about the way you’ve been treated throughout your career?”  And a few of the bars in his response is “Let’s talk about how i’m killing everthing i’m touching/ and how i walked in the game with no crutches/No Diddy, No Dupree, No Dr. Dre/No Cash Money from Baby/And no ROCs from Jay” — enough said.  And he’s still doing his thing… and from the album, I hope he gets all the love he deserves.

My favorite tracks begin with his newest single, “Everything, Everyday, Everywhere” featuring Keri Hilson & Ryan Leslie.  Great independent anthem and club banger, for sure. 

“Money Goes, Honey Stay (When the Money Goes)” is a great song featuring Jay-Z on the hook, about the ups and downs of trying to find someone who will be with you through it all- good and bad, poor and rich. True Life.

“Salute” featuring Lil Wayne probably has the sickest beat on the entire album next to “The Fabolous Life” of which I’ll get to later.  This song, with a military theme along with the wonderful sounds of what reminds me of a college band and a pimped out drum major creates an atmosphere like no other.  The lyrics, the theme, and the sound all mesh together for a harmony of it all.  Loso’s delivery is flawless, and one of my favorite verses from him on the entire album.  Lil Wayne’s verse is mediocre to me, but it’s good– doesn’t quite live up to Fabolous’, but I guess that’s ok since its not his album

“”My dogs will bite you, and guess who’s the nigga leash//I was once told by my nigga Meech…//you feed a sucker, he just grow to be a bigger leech//so nigga everytime u hear mine, get ur hand to ur hairline—general//”

“There He Go” is an ok song.  Featuring Red Cafe, it’s basically your usual “I’m So Fly” type of them.  Well delivered.. but nothing special in my opinion.

“The Fabolous Life,” on the other hand, has a crazy beat that only Loso could pull off.  When I first heard the beat with no accompaniment during the first 10 seconds or so, I was a bit nervous and thought I would have to give Loso his first “POP” on this bubble of an album.. but in the end, this song is basically one of the hottest.  Featuring Ryan Leslie, Loso performs a great delivery, flow, theme, and clever punchlines along with this animated beat. This bubble is blowin in full capacity!

Makin Love feat. Ne-Yo  & Last Time feat. Trey Songz ………. enough said. What more could you want?

He provides more with “Pachanga” about the fall-outs from changes in relationships…

” A thug changes, and Love Changes, And Best Friends Become Strangers… Pachangas”

Though these last few are definitely my favorites of the 16-track album, “Stay” featuring Marsha Ambrosius from Floetry is my favorite of all.  It’s the intimate songs, the heart-felt ones that touch me the most.  This track expresses the neglect he felt from his father, and how, now, being a father, he’s working to correct the past… ” This year I became a father, and I’mma die being one.. ‘Whatsup son?’ “

in all honesty, This Album is so far beyond BUBBlING, it’s flying already…

It’s a definite banger in any stereo.

Category F5 Album Review

The infamous Chi-Town tongue-twisting artist Twista has just released his seventh solo album “Category F5.”  The intro to the album with the first track “Misunderstood” featuring Buk describes the F-Scale of tornadoes and twisters from F1 to F5.  F5, being the most destructive, is a perfect metaphor for the impact that Twista’s quick-multi-syllabic rhythmical scheme has on an audience once heard.  I can’t call this album similar to anything else, and I am a fan of it, though I do have my reserves about a few “common” themes… Pop the bubble to

The scene is set up from the first song and as “Misunderstood” goes back and forth between Buk and Twista. Buk does the song justice, but once you hear Twista’s voice, he comes in completely dominating the beat, and you already know it’s going to be a great album.

R.Kelly returns from his hiatus on “Yellow Light”.  He sounds like his normal self, with no auto-tune, and sounds as if he has let go of his “rap” phase..  This song is definitely for the ladies and another favorite for the fellas.. I would’ve chose it over “Wetter” because the classic R.Kelly and rhythmical genius Twista adds a great relaxed flavor to the track (one of my favorites).

“Wetter” is the infamous single.. it took me a while to like the song until i heard it in the club.  Sometimes i have to remind myself that songs about sex are ok.. it’s just that sometimes it goes too far and feels more derogatory and disrespectful than anything else… and although he says some racey things on here.. it’s more classy than most…plus.. everyone’s out for radio-status these days..

“Billionaire” featuring Busta Rhymes is the typical song about money… although the beat is sick which claims it as a definite club banger, im tired of hearing about other people’s money and how they’re getting it, (personally)… I won’t be knocking to that on a regular.. but I continue..

“Yo Body” features the group that Twista came up in, Do or Die, featuring the hook singer Johnny P.  I like the song a lot, but it lacks a sense of sensitivity such as the song with R.Kelly.. it seems more like a song men would sing about women when they’re not around.None-the-less, all of the artists on it are dope and it’s sure to tear up any club at the right timing. If i put my ethics aside, i like the song. (and i do that often when i get out of my critical zone…) I guess some songs just aren’t for the ladies :-/

“Hustla” has a dope hook. The Chi theme is still prevalent. Whoever sings the hook, you could almost mistake for lil wayne by the way he drags out his words, which i personally enjoy on most of his songs. (LOL)   Still, the song is ill.  For all the dope-boys, wanna-bes, or just someone like me who enjoys dope-boy music for whatever reason, its a favorite.  The same goes for ”Wanna See Em’ Buss”.

“Gotta Get ME One” features the late Static Major (RIP).  The song is the best slow jam on the album.  (It’s an easy favorite for me because im working on a similar song after recently wondering what happened to all the slow jams in the club! – although mine will be r&b inspired)  

Out of the 15 or so tracks, I definitely can get down with over half of the album, which is a huge plus in this day and age of rap albums.  Twista gets two huuuge thumbs up… seven out of ten balloons… and the other three aren’t popped, they’re just waiting to be blown-up

Letoya Luckett's Newest Vid

Letoya Luckett is back again… Except this time she’s not bashing the men, she bashing the ladies… Personally, I can’t agree with the song because I never would contemplate fighting the “other” woman UNLESS she was a close friend… even then, I still wouldn’t want the guy back and would just want to move on.. So the song is unrealistic in my eyes, but I do know a few girls who’ve gone at the other… None-the-Less, you can decide for yourself… Pop The Bubble for ‘She Ain’t Got”

Fabolous Lookin Ooey Gooey Gooood

By far one of my favorite artists, I must say that I like almost any-and-just-about every thing that he does.  I’m anticipating his new album, “Loso’s Way,” and I’m feeling this new song.  LET IT BE KNOWN! that he did say UnLIKE what the video portrays, he’s in no way condoning shoplifting.  What he means by the catch phrase (that you’ll know once u pop that bubble) is that he’s capapble of giving a lady (such as myself ) anything that she desires, and therefore doesn’t have to worry about the pricetag.  GO ON & POP THAT BUBBLE ‘FORE I START SOME TROUBLE!
